Ramen and Gelato in the Gotic district! And some vegan options...

On this post I will talk about some of the options you have while walking in the enchanting Gotic district
First my new favorite place, a cozy, inviting and informal Ramen Bar! I loved the way Koku Ramen Bar is and loved their homemade lemonade and Ramen. Simplicity at its best. Just Ramen, Japanese noodle soup with a broth ( they serve a totally vegetarian broth too) and toppings such as seaweed, tofu , veggies, meat; you can choose the extras like some butter or toasted garlic...Delish!!! They have vegetarian options, noodles are eggless, it comes with an half boiled egg but you can choose to have the vegan option.
Sometimes, what else do you need except a bol of ramen and homemade lemonade?

New in town, the renewed Tandoor!

Surinder Oberoi was the 1st Indian Chef in Barcelona. He worked in various restaurants and participated in Cuine Asia and other events. Today he would be proud of his son, young chef Ivan. Ivan has been participating in many gastronomic events and has offered catering all over Spain. He has opened, just last week, the renewed image of the classic Indian restaurant in Barcelona, Tandoor. It is now situated on calle Aragon 8. Ivan, with the help of his mother and his team, has been able to recreate the homely atmosphere you are looking for.
The space has been decorated by Isabel Lopez Vilalta. Among her works are the Celler Can Roca and the Hotel Omm.

Shangai 1930, a chic Chinese.

Continuing with Chinese food, if you need something more upscale Shangai 1930 is a good option. The Restaurant has nice deco, à la Gaudi, and serves  authentic cantonese food and a mixture of asian dishes. Apart from the dining area down they also they have 4 private rooms . Last time we went was for some close friends anniversary, we had fun, the food was decent, their vegetarian options are quite extended but the service was not up to the standard. We had a set menu and the first and seconds got mixed up; it became a bit chaotic but at the end we had fun and that's what counts.
Situated in a residential area, not far from Pl Francesc Macia on Calle Buenos Aires, 11 Tel: 93 363 43 70

Hoy, your Chinese in the Barrio Les Corts!

Apart from all the gourmet restaurants or the delicate Japanese menus, some days you just need  Chinese comfort food. Hoy, the name of this simple restaurant, is the typical neighborhood Chinese you would go on a cold midweek night to have a hot meal. It doesn't have those red and gold typical Chinese deco, it is more simple, more contemporary; you can see the kitchen from the dining area. The food takes a bit of time to come on your table, it is freshly made; the service is great and the owner is a gem. His restaurant is here since many years, he is always here ready to tell you the latest jokes, you can find people waiting outside on weekends. Good, simple and casual, perfect to go with your parents or for a quick midweek lunch (they have a lunch menu) or dinner; you can also do a takeaway. In Travessera de les Corts, 281, Tel:934 30 00 79

Kibuka, your tropical Japanese!

While in the Gracia area, you have an ample choice of good restaurants I had mentioned in an old post: Post on Gracia. Kibuka is a good Japanese, with a Brazilian twist. You have one on Calle Verdi, where there is a nice interior patio with light coming in and one on Calle Goya which goes more with the spirit of the area.

Asian tapas for a casual meal...

DUMPLINGS
Mosquito, a small Asian tapas café in the Born. They have a variety of imported beers; and  typical Chinese and Hong Kong dishes are served as tapas.. Somewhere to go for a very casual lunch or dinner. It gets quite busy at peak hours. You can also go anytime for a beer or a chai and dim sum. A different way to explore the Born if you are not in the mood of the usual tapas.
You will also pass by DeMano, a very interesting store. Check more: http://www.demano.net/ "demano was born as an idea to solve a specific problem of our modern cities: give a second life to a material that is discarded and it was very difficult to reuse. demano is a brand created in Barcelona".

Ikibana on Paralelo... Good choice?

Ikibana Paralelo
We have been  to the Ikibana in the Born many times and have always been happy with the food and service. And this time we wanted to try the über designed restaurant on Paralelo. The concept is very interesting, there are amazing window displays filled with Japanese and exotic plants. We were welcomed in with a smile.
The service was pleasant, the food was good and the desserts were interesting.
Ikibana is a fusion of Japanese and Peruvian food.
We went with the kids and ordered some exotic makis and some basic ones- which were not on menu- like a simple avocado maki, which we had requested them to make.

Spanish Asian bridge! Dos Palillos

On this post DOS Palillos, asian tapas gourmet bar.
Dos Palillos is located in the narrow calle Elisabeth in the funky Raval neighborhood, on the ground of the hotel Casa Camper.
Dos Palillos, a Michelin Star restaurant has two types of ambiance; you enter in a Spanish typical bar where you can sit and order asian tapas a la carte. Behind the beaded curtain you get an intimate Asian food bar with the open kitchen in the center, where you can have a tasting menu. You have to book for the tasting menu but you can just go for some tapas whenever you want, on week mid days it would be easier to get a seat.
The name of the place, Dos Palillos , two toothpicks, is a blend of the usual toothpicks you have your tapas with and chopsticks.
The layout inside is cool, kitsch and intimate. When you book you specify your food allergies and preference, vegetarian in our case.
You can see all the cooks and the chef going on with their work. What really attracted me was the calm and precision which with they were cooking. It was peaceful to look at them, nothing at all like what you see in programs like  Gordon Ramsay's Hell Kitchen. Each cook had their own duties to carry on with, a nice mix of different people from all over the world.

Asian route!

Carlota Akaneya, Thai Thai and Memoria de China : nice asian restaurants, place to go in Barcelona
When you rise in the morning, give thanks for the light, for your life, for your strength. Give thanks for your food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason to give thanks, the fault lies in yourself.
Tecumseh

I, many times, have the sudden urge to have some hot curry or noodles, especially during these cold days.
We love Japanese food, but Japanese food is not only Sushis! Even tough I love sushis, we just found this sukiyaki joint. It is the first of its kind in Barcelona, the authentic Hibachi grill which is fueled with white charcoal. From Kyoto to Barcelona, Carlota Akaneya on c/pintor fortuny, will welcome you in its homely atmosphere, with their several different-sized tables and their own grill in the middle.
